‘A propulsive and uncommonly wise novel about one unexpected wedding guest and the surprising people who help her start anew.’
I loved this novel! After going through a divorce, Phoebe checks into a hotel where she meets Lila, a bride preparing for a luxurious week-long wedding event. Phoebe is the only guest in the hotel that is not originally part of the wedding party. As events unfold, Phoebe and Lila bond until Phoebe unexpectedly becomes Lila's maid of honour—a turn of events for Phoebe, who was expecting one life-changing night in the beautiful mansion in Newport, Rhode Island. Without giving too much away, the novel has humour (e.g. 19th-century literary wit/bridezilla vibes/guests who want the 'doctor' groom to check their bowel movements), romance, drama, and outstanding character development. The author expertly uses dialogue to help readers connect with the main characters at the wedding, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! I couldn't get enough, and if I have one complaint, it's that the ending left me wanting more—I wasn't ready for it to end. I highly, highly recommend this book!
