After reading 'The Rose Code', I decided to try another book by Kate Quinn, and I was not disappointed! With two strong female heroines and a dreadful villain, the story kept me turning the pages from the very beginning.
When American female Charlie, a single & pregnant young woman in the post-WW2 era, chooses to disobey her parents and embark on a journey to find her cousin in France, she has no idea how much her life will change. Along the way, she finds Evelyn and eventually uncovers her past, a woman who was part of a spy group during the war known as ‘The Alice Network.’ The author does a fantastic job of developing all the characters, particularly Charlie (Charlotte), Evelyn, and the French traitor, who is one of the most vile characters I have ever encountered in a book.
If you like war novels, (particularly WW2 in Europe) stories, spy stories, and themes of female empowerment, defiance of gender roles, justice and revenge, the psychological impact of war, and friendship, then you’ll love ‘The Alice Network’ as much as I did.
